It's the shoulder season here in New Smyrna Beach. The weather is prone to toggle between gorgeous and a bit too toasty (at least for me). At the same time, some of our snowbird friends have begun the trek back north. Those timing cues also means it's time to plan for our annual Spring Art Sale, choose which of our Summer Camp sessions are right for your kids or grandkids, and time to get tickets for our Razzle Dazzle Fashion Show.

We all appreciate the power of original art to brighten our moods and enrich our lives. Our annual Spring Art Sale is just what you need to kick your personal space up a notch. On the weekend of April 13-14, we'll host our one major art sale of the year. Our artists bring extra works from their studios to give you a wider selection of great art to choose from. For the first time, our Spring Art Sale will include the gallery at Jane's Art Center. We're excited for you!

The event begins with a members-only preview event on Friday night, April 12. Members get the best selection of great deals. The general public can join in on Saturday morning, April 13.

After you've purchased some great art, how about ensuring your children or grandchildren can spend some portion of the summer in our myriad of art camp opportunities, including our first summer camp at Jane's? Details are nearby.

That brings me to the Razzle Dazzle Fashion Show, this year on Sunday, May 19. The show is the annual highlight of our most extensive Outreach program. We exist to serve our community – and no program we administer more completely represents our commitment than the Razzle Dazzle Fashion Club.

We believe that each of our programs impacts its participants positively, but Razzle Dazzle leans life-changing. We are humbled, and immeasurably proud, to provide the instruction, guidance and encouragement to Razzle Dazzle's Fashionistas. Most have blossomed under this program and many have taken steps towards careers. We could scarcely have dreamed of such an outcome.

Myrna the Shark Painting: 11am-3pm Hub artist Eliza Midgett will be painting "Myrna the Shark” – a life-size shark sculpture – in The Hub’s Lobby. Eliza was commissioned by the City of New Smyrna Beach to add another shark to the artistic shark presence in the community. Come by and say hello!

Art Connections: 10am-7pm an inside look at the work of more than 60 local artists. Talk to the artists and learn about the process of creating art. Explore two floors of art in one historic building in the heart of the New Smyrna Beach Arts District.

Live Music: 11am-1pm RhythmWorks outside The Hub. 5-7pm James Hall in the Lobby.

Talk Art!: from 1-2pm So, You Think You Have Control of Your Fingers – An informal demonstration and conversation with Hub music instructor, Sally Mackay.

Sip & Stroll: from 1-6pm The Hub and Jane’s participate every 1st Saturday in Canal Street’s Sip & Stroll. Purchase tickets at the Info Booth on Canal Street or online at www.canalstreetnsb.com and be sure to visit The Hub and Jane’s during your Canal Street journey.

The Hub offers a variety of workshops and classes in painting, drawing, collage, photography, music (ukulele, guitar and harmonica), foreign languages (French, Spanish and Italian) – all developed and taught by our artist-instructors.

HUB ON THE RUN

Have a look at these joyful pictures from our newest Outreach program, Hub On The Run. This program is in its second year and it materially steps up the number of children in the community that we can touch. In The Hub On The Run program we send a Hub Artist to "take over" the Art classroom in each of our 5 area public elementary schools. Our artist brings a unique art project to supplement the regular curriculum. They remain in the classroom for as many days as it takes to see every child in the school. The program has proven very popular with both the kids and the classroom art instructor.  The kids really appreciate the change and we are so happy to make a difference.

MEET HUB VOLUNTEER GRACE MCNABB

Meet the amazing Grace McNabb. Grace has been volunteering selflessly at The Hub for most of our existence. In addition to being a dedicated volunteer she's a genuinely nice person— you're not likely to find anyone more consistently pleasant. We are honored to have her. She's captained our efforts to deliver food to you at our events and led her team like a champion. Her adult son Justin is always at her side and we appreciate him as well. On another note, she's a whiz at origami.  We once tried to convince her to teach a class at The Hub.  Sadly, we failed. Thank you Grace for all you do in support of The Hub on Canal.
